Abstract:

Technology is increasingly used in statistics courses to create a more stimulating learning environment and motivate students to become self-directed learners. By using a video capture program such as Camtasia, we prepared video tutorials with sound overlap to guide students through a data analysis using Excel. Also using the same program, we created short videos in which we guide students through the derivation of the solution to different types of statistical problems. The pedagogical effect of integrating this technology into an undergraduate biostatistics course is demonstrated by an increased students' performance in the data analysis component of the course and by an enhancement in students' understanding of statistics.
