Abstract:

Monitoring the sample released and the response rates achieved during the survey lifecycle is key to maintaining an appropriate balance between survey requirements. It is an even more important task for any subsample of the primary survey as decisions made about the primary survey can greatly affect the results and outcomes for the subsample. This paper examines these special subsample issues using two surveys sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: the National Immunization Survey-Teen, a nationwide survey that monitors the vaccination rates of adolescents aged 13-17 years; and the National 2009 H1N1 Flu Survey, a nationwide survey that monitors influenza vaccination rates for all age ranges. This paper will investigate methods to forecast the number of completed surveys as well as numeric and visual ways to present sample monitoring data.
