Abstract:

Joint longitudinal and survival models can capture many facets of the relationship between an evolving longitudinal process and risk of event. Recent advances in these models include accounting for competing risks via multivariate survival models. In this paper, we propose to model the time-to-event and competing risks via an illness- death model, where the longitudinal process may be related to the risk of illness or death. An example will be given from mother-to-child transmission of HIV, where infants are at risk of both HIV transmission from their mothers and death.
