Abstract:

A multinomial response in epidemiological studies is very common and requires an appropriate statistical analysis. This study aims to identify the spatial risk of obesity, classified as eutrophic, overweight or obese, according to World Health Organization criteria. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 651 local residents in a municipality in Southeast Brazil. A generalized additive model that analyzes the risk related to spatial dependence, considering more than two levels of the response variable, and allows inclusion of covariates was used. Specifically, the cumulative logit model was selected. The results identify significant geographical areas of higher/lower risk of overweight and obesity, setting the existence of a spatial component in the obesity epidemic in this region, allowing better clinical and Public Health interventions on the epidemic.
