Abstract:

In this talk we will consider a model of rainfall as a two state alternating renewal process with a "wet" state and "dry" state. We do this in order to obtain the joint probability of zero rain states for a given time period. We vary the survival function of the renewal distribution to match the empirical behavior observed in rain gauge data obtained from the Florida gauge system. Scaling behavior is observed in the probability of zero rain and the behavior is built into the renewal process.
