Abstract:

This talk will discuss our recent work on exploratory data analysis (EDA) on document collections. We view the purpose of EDA as the formation of preliminary hypothesis with regards to data structure. Some of the topics to be discussed will include outlier detection, dimensionality reduction, and visualization. We will illustrate the results of our work using document collections from PubMed and the statistics literature. Particular attention will be paid to the relationship of the horizon scanning process and exploratory data analysis.
