Abstract:

Due to the rapid progress of the recent sensor network technology such as RFID device, new trends in marketing have emerged. One of the most recent experiments attracting attention nowadays is the usage of RFID, attached to the shopping cart of the customer for tracking their movements within a store. The data gathered in such way provide us the information on how the customer walks around and how long they stay at the particular supermarket section. In conventional consumer behavior studies the customer purchasing behavior was treated as a "black box". The aim of the research is to clarify the relationship between customers' stationary time at the supermarket section and their purchasing behavior by using RFID and store's sales transaction data. By modeling customer behavior in this paper, we propose a new framework of store sales strategy.
