Abstract:

Statisticians are in high demand in the business world. Hal Varian (Google) predicted that statistics will be the sexy job for the next decade. Wall Street Journal reported that statistician is the third best job in the U.S. (behind actuary and mathematician). The competition for statistics, data mining and analytics talent has never been stronger. This panel brings together several experienced professionals to discuss the state of statistical practice in business, what managers expect from statisticians, how to build a successful career in industry, and the difference between in-house and consulting functions. The panelists have worked at IBM, American Express, T-Mobile, SPSS, Washington Mutual, Ipsos Reid, British Columbia government, among others.
