Abstract:

Rasch models are commonly used to construct measures in scale development. In this study, measures derived from two Rasch models for polytomous data were compared: The Rating Scale Model and the Partial Credit Model. Data were collected from over 800 orthopedic patients during the year of 2009 using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System physical function item bank version 1. The findings of this study can help illuminate appropriate uses of these models and contribute to dialogues of objective measurement.
