Abstract:

Methodologies of detecting QTL have been discussed for more than half century. The focus of this work is on the application of Bayesian model to identify QTL associated with a complex disease in dogs-Canine hip dysplasia(CHD). CHD is characterized by hip laxity and subluxation that can lead to hip osteoarthritis. Multipoint linkage analysis based on a reversible jump MCMC approach was applied on a crossbreed pedigree of 366 dogs. Three hip radiographic traits on both sides of each dog's hip were analyzed on 20,000+ SNPs across 39 chromosomes. Followed by single-chromosome analysis, which showed significant evidence for QTL contributing to hip traits, multichromosomal analysis refines QTL by considering the QTL interactions. Identification of genes in the QTL region(s) can assist in identification of the aberrant genes and biochemical pathways in both dogs and humans with hip dysplasia.
