Abstract:

Many clinicians start to realize that patients' quality of life is not only affected by their clinical characteristics, but also by social and psychological characteristics. In this study, we were interested in identifying some social and psychological factors that could alter one's health condition. Our data came from a large nationally representative survey, the National Survey of American Life, which was sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health and conducted by the Survey Research Center of the Institute of Social Research at the University of Michigan from 2001 to 2003. The sample contained over 6,000 participants. A quantitative approach was applied to evaluate these data systematically. Our findings could provide a meaningful understanding on the important factors contributing to improved health care delivery.
