Abstract:

The principles of lean six sigma methodology (define, measure, analyze, improve and control) are widely used in industry to identify, construct and implement solutions to problems in business. In recent years there has been an increasing interest in teaching statistics using real life scenarios involving business applications. Incorporating six sigma into the MBA statistics course affords students not only the opportunity to learn basic statistical concepts that can be used in a variety of situations but also the opportunity to see direct application of statistics to some of industry's most challenging problems. We will discuss the benefits and challenges of this approach.
