Abstract:

Let X be a non-negative, integer valued r.v. that is subjected to a damage process. Let Y be the undamaged portion of X.Then, Y is equal to X ,or Y is less than X. Suppose the distribution of Y given X, referred to as the survival distribution, is binomial. If X is equal to Y, then the observation on X is called undamaged. Otherwise, it is called a damaged observation. Now, the characterization of the Poisson distribution,as the distribution of X,is obtained by using the property P(Y=y) = P(Y=y| Undamged)=P(Y=y|Damaged). This property is known as the celebrated Rao-Rubin (1964) condition. In this presentation, a practical difficulty related to the adaptability of this condition while identifying a Poisson model for the experimental data for the growth of monoclonal antibodies is discussed, thereby suggesting a need for a more stringent look at this condition.
