Abstract:

An emerging trend is a topic that is growing in interest and utility over time. The scientific literature consists of a vast amount of data, including journal papers, conference proceedings, and technical reports. It is impossible for a human analyst to read every research paper that has been published in the world. Fortunately, scientific research data is highly structured, and contains meta data such as authors, institutions, countries, keywords, and publication date. This meta data can be used to help detect emerging trends in the literature. This talk will discuss several statistical techniques, such as time-series analysis, citation analysis, and topic modeling which can be used to help detect emerging trends.
