Abstract:

In this talk, we discuss how some definitions which are required learning for many introductory statistics students actually hold true only in a narrow sense. We focus on how the fallacy of the transposed conditional leads to mistakes in confidence interval interpretation and in the use of significance testing as a decision making tool.
