Abstract:

In our face-to-face (f2f) undergraduate biostatistics course, over 85% of students have mastered at least 80% of the content. Course materials include: videos of graphing/analysis techniques with instructor voiceover, an online interactive textbook, PowerPoint slides, supplementary notes, interpretation centered assignments and a summative final project. The course is now delivered in three different formats: f2f, online and hybrid (online/f2f). The purpose of this ongoing study is to compare and contrast students' experiences and interpersonal interactions within the three formats, using surveys, interviews and observations (f2f and online). We expect differences in student comfort level with the professor, other students and the course content. We will identify and present aspects of the courses that result in successful development of skills and knowledge within and between formats.
