Abstract:

The results of principal components based fit of the functional linear model with scalar response to a given functional dataset can be substantially influenced by omitting (adding) of one or few functional curves. It is important for a data analyst to be able to identify influential curves and assess their effects on various aspects of the analysis. In order to diagnose influential curves, several non-robust diagnostic measures, which would provide misleading results in the presence of influential curves, have been proposed in the literature. The objective of this study is to develop a robust estimator for the functional regression parameter and robust diagnostic measures based on this newly proposed estimator. In addition, the practical use of these robust diagnostic measures is illustrated by using real data sets.
