Abstract:

The paper presents a constrained least squares estimator for "distorted" data and analyses its asymptotic properties. The estimator is unbiased (but inefficient) and normally distributed, provided that the code used in place of the distorted data meets certain conditions. The properties of the estimator in the context of small samples remain unknown.
