Abstract:

Novel applications of singular value decompositions (SVD), and weighted versions of them (WSVD), to data available as time series of images, are proposed. The data, or image time series, capture the calcium ion (Ca2+) expression, or signal, of myometrial cells. Multiple weighted and standard singular value decompositions are used to detect, extract and clarify Ca2+ signals in a way that is semi-automatic and tuned closely to the data and their many complexities. Our method leads to simple yet finely focused statistical tests used to compare calcium ion expressions across experimental conditions.
