Abstract:

Stat consulting by grad students has been common for decades. More recently, stat educators have begun to introduce consulting to undergrads, both at large universities and at small colleges. This talk will provide an overview of such efforts at a dozen institutions, in an attempt to provide models from which educators can choose elements to shape course-based consulting opportunties at their own schools. Also described in some detail will be the author's experiences in establishing a senior seminar driven by pro bono stat consulting, designed as a capstone experience for undergrad math majors focusing on statistics.
