Abstract:

This paper is designed as a tutorial to analyze survey data (NHANES) using SAS Proc SURVEYLOGISTIC. Specifically, the paper is designed to introduce the reader to the concept of using population-based survey data. It will also present the reader a SAS macro which easily allows beginners to download NHANES data. The NHANES 1999-2000 survey was designed as a stratified, multistage, nationally representative probability survey. The study was approved by the National Center for Health Statistic's Institutional Review Board. The major objectives of NHANES are many, including, for the purposes of this paper to, analyze risk factors for selected diseases using SAS Proc SURVEYLOGISTIC. SAS PROC SURVEYLOGISTIC was introduced to SAS in Version 9.1+ and makes statistically valid inferences for the population based on the sample design from survey data.
