Abstract:

Many times auditors review samples of business invoices and estimate the number of error items in case of rare events. Often samples have only zero error items and hence classical methods of estimation are inapplicable. The same situation is often encountered in acceptance sampling and medical investigations. It is known that the hypergeometric probability distribution can be used, but approximate confidence limits for a proportion of this distribution, that can sometimes be better than exact ones, were unknown. Three new methods for constructing those approximate limits are proposed.Applications of them are discussed.
