Abstract:

Restricted mean lifeitme is often of direct interest in epidemiological studies involving time to an event and differences in it can be used as a basis for comparing several groups. As the factor of interest is often not randomized, covaraites adjustment are needed in order for accounting for imbalances in confounding factors. In this paper, we propose an estimator for differences in restricted mean lifetimes while accounting for confounding factors by building working models for the time-to-event and group assignment respectively. We show that this estimator possesses the double robust property, i.e., when either one of the working models is correct the estimator is consistent and asymptotically normal. Simulation studies are conducted to assess its finite-sample performance and the method is applied to kidney transplant data to illustrate its use in practice.
