Guiding student project workflow using reproducible statistical analysis tools
Projects play a key role in intermediate statistics courses, as they help to communicate the complexity and excitement of statistics as a field of study as well as prepare students for research. Recent developments in reproducible analysis tools (e.g. Sweave and statweave) can help facilitate appropriate data management and reporting by novice students. These tools provide structure and scaffolding to encourage exploration of data, clarify data coding and derivation, and provide a record of analyses undertaken. This talk will describe these tools and review the strengths and limitations of their use in the second course.
