Abstract:

This data-centric world offers enormous opportunities for statisticians, but also poses formidable challenges. If we can meet the challenges successfully, then this is a great time to advance the status of our discipline with giant leaps. If we cannot accomplish this now, then when?

The purpose of this panel discussion is to focus on recent changes in statistics curricula and the need for additional changes. Some of the issues to be addressed include:

-Do we need to make changes, or are we doing just fine? -What changes in our curricula can help to attract more majors? -What changes can we make in teaching statistics to others? -What role can interdisciplinary programs play? -Do we provide our students with adequate training in computing? -We cannot just add to the curriculum; what aspects can we de-emphasize? -What are some success stories? -What are major hurdles that we face?
