Abstract:

The characterization of various strength properties of lumber is an important problem in wood engineering. We consider some statistical approaches for analyzing and modelling lumber strength data. Specifically, we show how survival models and Weibull distributions can be used to study various strength properties of lumber. The methods are illustrated using data collected from Forintek Canada.
