Abstract:

The advent of new technologies for rapid and cost-effective high-throughput sequencing has led to an explosion of data from experiments using these technologies, experiments aimed at measuring a wide variety of biological processes and phenomena, from genetic variation to gene expression and epigenetic markers. While biologists are eagerly adopting this new technology for their experiments, statisticians have only begun to explore the properties of this new data, and are currently working hard to develop analysis methods to best assist their research collaborators in answering their biological questions. In this talk I will discuss some of the current statistical work in this area.
