Abstract:

Engineers and managers are faced with distilling a vast amount of information into a viable maintenance and restoration plan for bridge infrastructure management. A purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the use of innovative statistical tools in the decision-making process regarding where and how to use limited resources for the greatest benefit of an infrastructure network.

This case study using the stream stability assessment data at bridge crossings demonstrates that properties of partially-ordered sets and the resultant rankings provide valuable information that would be lost if the monitored indicator data only were aggregated into a single index. The methods and results can be combined to identify possible reference sites for restoration purposes and to identify the maintenance and restoration measures useful for a comprehensive bridge infrastructure management approach.
