Abstract:

As the roles of statisticians have rapidly evolved over the last few decades have Statistics degree programs kept pace? If not, what changes are needed? Rather than individual departments grappling with these issues, would it not be helpful to use our collective wisdom to create guidelines, with input from industry and government? ASA President Sastry Pantula has appointed an Education Workgroup with the charge: "To facilitate a significant discussion among academic units, industry statisticians, and government statisticians about the preparation of statisticians." The purpose of this panel is to provide input for the Workgroup's report. The panel consists of statisticians who have thought a great deal about what should be included in Statistics programs at all levels. After the panelists have shared their views the floor will be open to allow plenty of time for input from the audience.
