Abstract:

Asymptotic theory for shape constrained curve estimation in one-dimension has developed rapidly in the last 10-15 years, with results available for monotone, convex, and k-monotone function estimates. On the other hand, asymptotic theory for shape constrained function estimation in several dimensions has seen relatively little activity and presents a large number of challenging open problems. In this talk I will review several different problems involving shape constrained function estimation in the case in which the unknown function to be estimated isa function of d real variables with d at least 2. I will discuss some partial results, review a few of the many open problems, and state conjectures in several cases of particular interest.
