Abstract:

We introduce a new estimation method based on weighted estimating equations to fit parametric intensity function models for inhomogeneous spatial point processes. The weights involved are determined in a way such that they can incorporate both inhomogeneity and dependence information of the process. Extensive simulations show that significant efficiency gains can be achieved for non-Poisson processes, compared to the commonly used Poisson maximum likelihood estimation method. An application to two tropical forest data examples illustrates the use of the proposed method in a real life setting.
