Abstract:

We compared the results of a grocery survey using an ABS frame to the same survey using a RDD sampling frame of Texas households. Special attention is given to the response rate and coverage issues of demographics. ABS sampling provides some relief to coverage issues related to cell phone only households and households without a telephone. The coverage and non-response bias inherent in the RDD sampling frame is examined and compared to the ABS sampling frame. We also compare costs of both sampling frames. Lastly, the extra cost of the ABS frame is weighed against possible bias in the RDD sampling frame.
