David Freedman changed the way statistics is taught. I will talk about his philosophy and his approach to pedagogy, and reveal what he told me about the best way to keep a class interested. Those who want to guess ahead of time are advised to remember that Freedman was not only a philosopher but also a thoroughly practical man.
