Abstract:
|
We consider the gsDesign R package for group sequential design that provides computational tools enabling design optimization, substantial customization capability and application to adaptive design. While many standard 2-arm group sequential designs are easily dealt with using off-the-shelf commercial software, custom reports or variations on what is available in a package are often desired. R provides a great platform for simply customizing upon a well-conceived and validated toolset. gsDesign is a collaboration between a researcher and software developer that may provide a model for areas like adaptive design where customization is often desirable. A toolset that conforms to good coding and documentation practices, has built-in checking to ensure updates do not introduce errors, and is available in an open, collaborative environment is a powerful enabler of innovation.
