Abstract:

The Medical College of Georgia FitKid Project collected Body Mass Index (BMI) data, on over 600 students in 18 Richmond County, Georgia, schools for grades 3-5 to support a longitudinal intervention study for obesity reduction and prevention. Intervention consisted of a healthy snack, 40 minutes of academics, 40 minutes of sports skills/transitions, and 40 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity on a daily basis after school. Data collection occurred at three measurement points each year. Reporting of the BMI data graphically flows from the concept of Number Needed to Treat as expressed by the L'Abbe Plot. An elaboration of the L'Abbe Plot allows the presentation of changes over time (Event Rate Migration Analysis). Event Rate Curves show the proportion above a particular BMI for intervention and control groups over successive time points compared to age related CDC data.
