Abstract:
|
The ASA's Undergraduate Statistics Education Initiative (USEI) developed guidelines for undergraduate majors/minors/concentrations in statistics. While graduate study in statistics is one obvious "next step" for students in such programs, the employment/career opportunities available for students with an undergraduate degree are less well known - both for students considering this option and their faculty mentors. This panel includes representatives from several employment sectors that regularly recruit and hire students with bachelor's level training in statistics. Panelists will discuss career opportunities from two perspectives. (1) What sort of undergraduate background/ training/experiences make students eligible or particularly desirable for employment in these areas? and (2) What kinds of work do such students do on a day-to-day basis in the early stages (first few years).
