Abstract:

Clustering temporal gene expression allows one to explore the functional co-regulation of genes via their co-expression. Common cluster techniques focus on analyzing temporal data from one biological condition and produce static clusters. Taking advantage of techniques in signal processing, this research proposes a novel cluster approach to study temporal expression across multiple biological conditions and finally dynamic clusters are detected. With the dynamic clusters it is possible to reveal the dynamic associations, which have not been discovered by other cluster methods, among the time-limited co-expressed genes that react uniquely to specific activating stimulations. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is evaluated in finding the optimal number of clusters and differentiating significant clusters from noisy clusters, through simulation study and real data analysis.
