Abstract:

Significance tests using Pearson distributions (Pearson, 1895) have necessitated the needs of efficient programs to compute probability values (or percentages) of Pearson distributions, given test statistic values (or percentage points). However, the existing computer programs (e.g., Amos & Daniel, 1971; Bouver & Bargmann, 1973; Davis & Stephens, 1983) only provide a means of finding percentage points of Pearson distributions other than probability values of the distributions; consequently, researchers often rely on the 28-page Pearson and Hartley's (1972) tables, which are unwieldy and often require second difference interpolation for both skewness vß1 and kurtosis ß2. Therefore, the present study develops a new program that facilitates researchers to compute probability values of Pearson distributions for use in significance tests.
