Abstract:
|
Over twenty percent of all undergraduate students who take an introductory statistics course are business majors and research in B-schools relies increasingly upon statistical methods. At the same time, the number of B-school elective courses in statistics and the number of business school faculty who are professional statisticians has declined. The paper reviews historical developments, including the work of the group "Making Statistics More Effective in Schools and Business [MSMESB]" and current accreditation requirements. The three authors then describe courses at their institutions and potential directions for change. The final section describes some of the issues facing statistics in B-schools and briefly explores possible solutions.
