Abstract:
|
An increasing number of proposals at the Census Bureau's national network of Research Data Centers (RDC) are requesting internal demographic data. The recent release of 1970 and 1980 decennial census microdata files, along with the 1990 and 2000 census data already available, researchers now have a 30-year span of internal data to address their research questions. Geographic classifications are being applied to the data that take advantage of the detailed geography available only in the internal files. Enhanced documentation for these data sets is now available and an ongoing project to harmonize these data will make analyses over time much easier. Because all of this work is being done with an eye toward providing the research community with public products that are compatible with the internal data, researchers can now do a considerable amount of preparatory work before entering an RDC.
