Abstract:

This brief is given in honor of Dr. Paul M. Ellner (AMSAA), who is a leading expert in Reliability Growth (RG) Management and Methodology. This presentation characterizes his long 30+ year career with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), and highlights the pivotal ramifications his research has had on the field of RG. Dr. Ellner has shaped the field by developing a wealth of methods for planning, tracking, and projecting reliability of complex systems undergoing development. A timeline of Dr. Ellner's contributions to the field are given, as well as a discussion of their role toward DoD reliability initiatives. This presentation also shows how Dr. Ellner's lifetime achievements have not only enhanced the DoD's capability to manage a growth program, but have extended the state-of-the-art in RG for assessing the reliability maturity of complex systems throughout design and development.
