Abstract:

Dorothy St. John Cooke earned her PhB (Bachelor of Philosophy) at the University of Chicago in 1937, and later received her MS in Statistics from Iowa State University in 1946. Cooke's future research would lead her to an array of professions that included service as: A field analyst for the Office of Price Administration (OPA); a training officer in statistics at the International Statistics Bureau Census; a statistical advisor for countries such as Pakistan, Vietnam, Jordan, the Philippines, and Switzerland; and ultimately a successful career in U.S. international relations with developing nations. Given the nature of Cooke's research, much of her work was never publicly disclosed, still, this poster will attempt to give a brief insight into the mystery of Dorothy St. John Cooke through several archival manuscripts and personal letter correspondence during her assignments in Pakistan.
