Abstract:

Cost-effectiveness analysis is the primary methodology for economic evaluation of competing health care interventions. Regression models have examined cost (C) and effectiveness (E) as outcome variables, and evaluated the impact of patient-specific characteristics, treatments and co-morbidities. In this paper we proceed conditionally with E as outcome and assess the influence of treatments on E that are delivered at specified cost C. We consider follow up studies in which survival time is the outcome of effectiveness and assess the impact of treatments delivered at varying levels of cost when interactions exist between the cost and treatments. The proposed method allows for varying levels of outcome censorship among different groups of patients. We derive the asymptotic distribution of the estimators of the parameters in our model, which then allows for statistical inference.
