Abstract:
|
In 2007, the Florida Legislature passed an audit law requiring the hand count of 2% of the precincts in one race per election. Florida's Department of State put in place an emergency rule prohibiting any audit from occurring until after the election is certified and fought more stringent audit provisions passed by voters in Sarasota County. Florida's post-election audit was observed by volunteers from the Florida Voters Foundation and the League of Women Voters of Florida as part of a multi-state effort. The lessons learned from 2008 election audit and the current efforts to improve Florida's election audit law will be discussed.
