Abstract:

The procedures of testing the equality of normal means in the conventional analysis of variance are heavily based on the assumption of the equality of the error variances. Studies have shown that the F-test is not robust under the violation of equal error variances. This paper introduces the single-stage sampling procedures for testing the hypotheses of the equality of means when the variances are unknown and unequal, moreover, even under the sample sizes are unequal with the inferences of simultaneous confidence intervals. An extension of the two-way layout is also considered, and the program of the percentage points of the ANOVA test under unequal sample sizes for testing the associated hypotheses is provided.
