Abstract:

The likelihood of securing a good employment after graduation is often a major consideration when college student choose their major. This paper attempts to investigate how the choice of study field affect employment outcomes and job satisfaction for college graduates with a business degree. Data on the length of time to secure an employment, the type of job, level of satisfaction, prior work experience, GPA, gender, and major were collected for graduates in a local business school between the years 2004 and 2006. The results show that major is an important factor in the amount of time to secure a position, starting salary, and internship opportunities. The study also shows that having relevant work experience, such as internship, has become increasingly important for graduates to secure a satisfactory job, regardless of the major.
