Abstract:

The objective of this work is to model the capture-recapture procedure as a point process (PP) and explore the assumptions usually made for the Lincoln-Peterson estimator. This presentation begins with a very general model for the incidence of disease as an empiric PP which includes competing causes of death. The capture-recapture procedure is modeled for each person as a succession of incident events/decisions over time using the marked PP. Both the general PP and the PP using a Poisson approximation are examined for the validity of the assumptions of the Lincoln-Peterson.
