Abstract:

Age-dependent branching processes have become well-established means to study the dynamics of complex biological systems. The practical implementation of these models, however, remains limited by the fact that most characteristics of the process do not have closed-form expressions. In this talk we will present estimation approaches using saddlepoint approximations to the expectation and variance-covariance function of the process. The presentation will be illustrated using applications to experimental data.
