Abstract:

There have been a number of household travel surveys that have been conducted during the past 5-10 years. One of these surveys is the National Household Travel Survey or NHTS, which is collected at a roughly five year cycle. This survey was last collected in 2001 and again in 2008. In addition to the NHTS, many State and MPOs have also conducted household travel series. In this paper, we will explore the feasibility of fusing all of the various surveys into a single "Expanded" NHTS, which would have increased statistical power for hypothesis testing as well as understanding travel trends in the U.S.
