Abstract:

Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis is widely used in proteomic studies. In order to estimate the size of a protein population, we develop a new model for data arising from software systems using a master-slave gel matching approach. We provide nonparametric estimators for both the expected number of proteins to be observed if a fusion gel approach is used and the lower bounds to the population size. A real example is presented and investigated using the proposed methods.
